Siobhán Parkinson studied English and German at Trinity College Dublin. After a year in Germany, she came back to Trinity to do her PhD (on the poetry of Dylan Thomas). She has worked as an editor for most of her life. She has written over 25 books for children, many of which have won national and international awards and some of which have been translated into a variety of languages, and a few for adults. She was Ireland’s first children’s laureate (2010-2012). She is currently publisher of Little Island Books, a small children’s publishing house she set up in 2010; it is now established as a leading children’s publisher in Ireland. Her most recent books are a children’s novel, Miraculous Miranda (Hodder 2016) and a non-fiction title, Rocking the System (Little Island 2018). She occasionally translates children’s books from German. She is currently working on an Irish-language historical novel.
